We worship the fragrant three-eyed One

Who confers ever-increasing prosperity.

Asato ma sad gamaya

Tamaso ma jyotir gamaya

Mrtyorma amritam gamaya

(Asah-tow-mah sad gah-mah-yah

Tah-mah-so mah jyo-teer gah-mah-yah

Lead me from unreal to real (through knowledge),

From darkness (or ignorance) to light (knowledge),

From death (limitations) to immortality (liberation).

4. A prayer upon awakening for remembering our divinity; to maintain awareness of the sanctity of our limbs, by which we connect to the external world.

Karagre vasate Laksmith karamule Sarasvati

Karamadhye tu Govindah prabhate karandarsanam

(Kah-rah-gray vah-say-tay laksh-me-he

Kah-rah-moo-lay sah-ras-vah-tee

Kah-rah-madh-yay too go-vin-dah-ha

On the tip of my fingers is Goddess Lakshmi,

On the base of my fingers is Goddess Lakshmi,

In the middle of my fingers is Lord Govinda.

In this manner, I look at my palms.

5. A prayer for self-knowledge, and recognition that all things come from the One; to evoke the spirit of wholeness in all things.

Om Purnamadah purnamidam purnat

Purnamudachyate

Purnasya purnamadaya

Purnamevavashishyate

That is whole; this is whole.

From the whole, this whole came.

Remove this whole from that whole,

What remains is still whole.

6. A prayer to the Divine for peace and harmony with our teachers; to invoke peace within the self and to dissolve mistrust of our self and fear of authority figures.

Om Saha navavatu

Saha nau bhunaktu

Saha viryam karavavahai

Tejasvinavadhitamastu ma vidvishavahi

Om (Sah-ha nah-vah-vah-tu

Sah-ha now bhuh-nak-tu

May He protect us both.

May He nourish us.

May we acquire the capacity (to study and understand the scriptures).

May our studies be brilliant.

May we not cavil at each other.

7. A prayer of gratitude to the Giver of Consciousness for food, life force, and all things.

Brahmarpanam Brahma havih

Brahmagnau Brahmana hutam

Brahmaiva tena gantavyam

Brahmakarma samdhina

Harih Om

Bhrah-mah hah-ve-he

Brahman is the offering.

Brahman is the oblation.

Poured out by Brahman into the fire of Brahman.

Brahman is to be attained by the one who contemplates the action of Brahman. (Brahman refers to Pure Consciousness.)
